Mushroom Mountain ID Classes
Our classes meet the criteria required by Health Departments for training in identification, food safety, record keeping, and traceability.
Under pressure from the FDA and each state’s health department or regulatory agency, Mushroom Mountain was asked in 2013 to design a Wild Mushroom Identification and Food Safety Course to satisfy the needs of all food agencies. After one year of course design and speaking to regulatory agencies, the course was officially adopted in 2014 in the state of South Carolina.
Overview of Certification
- Study materials provided 1 month ahead of class
- Permits for sale of 21+ species of economic and culinary value
- Recommendation for liability insurance for foragers
- Help avoid cases by educating consumers, including chefs to cook all mushrooms well, since most GI problems are from raw or undercooked mushrooms
